Beyonce Admits That Previous Albums Were Not Classics

Beyonce has admitted what many of her fans won’t - her last two albums weren’t classics. The ‘Ego’ singer spoke candidly to ‘Access Hollywood’ about her latest album, ’4′, and revealed that her goal was to craft a classic record instead of the collections of singles that were ‘I Am Sasha Fierce’ and ‘B’Day’.

Statements like these are why Beyonce continues to gain respect from her critics in this ’4′ era. She has simply admitted what many of us have been saying for years – most of her songs are geared toward getting placements in advertisements instead of having any lyrical or emotional depth.

Hopefully Beyonce continues this new quest for artistic growth and doesn’t revert to the garbage that was ‘Ego’ or ‘Video Phone’ in an attempt to regain her former commercial success. Think of the long run!

  I agree, Ashley. Dangerously in Love was one of the best debuts I’ve ever heard. And the weirdest thing is that it was actually more mature than the two albums that followed it.

  In my opinion a classic alum is one that really stands the test of time not only for future years but to think if the album was released 20 before if it would also be a success….I agree with beyonce 100%=)

  I agree with the first comment Dangerously in Love is a Classic CD but yall cant come for Rihanna. Her first two cd were trash. Now her GGGB was like B DAY just hit after hit after hit. LOUD is NOT A CLASSIC its lacking substance great music but yea. NOW RATED R if you want lyrical depth that CD IF OF THE CHAIN however to to all the DARK SATANIC LIKE IMAGERY, she scared america from actually getting comfortable and In love the album.   This is so hilarious, I couldn’t get pass 10 comments before I started inching to respond. I totally agree with Kiddz, Bey’s the only artist I can think of that receives constant criticism like this. I think she was just being humble also, but B’day is definitely a classic album. I am… was perhaps the only album with a focus for making radio friendly hits. My favs are 4, B’day, I am… and DIL(in that order). BTW, Trent Beyonce didn’t admit to not making classic music or anything of the sort, she seem to be explaining how DIL and 4 were both made with the intention of not dwelling on finding a song perfect for radio. Those 2 albums also have a more traditional sound. B’day was full of experimentation. It didn’t have a “classic” sound, but could very well still be considered one.

  Maybe it was shade to all the artist who have to have a gimmick to get sales NOT just Rihanna. Last time I check, female singers aren’t teh only one’s who change their hair, or clothes than working on their vocals. (Christina Aguilera*SpellCheck*, Nicki Minaj, etc.)

  In my opinion Bday is a classsic record but of course 4 is more mature and rightfully so. I think DIL was very relate-able, honest and age-appropriate and had most consistency single-wise.

  I think some of you do not understand what she means by classic album. That does not mean the album is a huge success, she talks about the conception of the album. According to her, a classic album is conceived as a whole whereas a non classic album is a compilation of singles without an overview.
