After generating tremendous buzz with his viral phenomenon ‘Marvin’s Room’, Drake has returned to mainstream music with his new single, ‘Headlines’. The song is the first release from his ‘Take Care’ album which hits stores on October 24th.
Listen to the track below:
This record has ‘hit’ written all over it. The building instrumental and the simple repetitive hook guarantee it a prime spot on radio while staying true to Drake’s signature sound. In fact, this is the type of single that J. Cole should have released instead of ‘Work Out’ which has received a generally negative response from his following because of it’s overly commercial appeal.
Still, the only downside to ‘Headlines’ are Drake’ monotone vocals. As someone who has openly stated that he isn’t a very capable singer, he surely hasn’t shown any attempt to branch out from behind the thick layer of auto-tune. Try harder.
