Despite scoring two of the year’s most successful R&B singles with ‘Sure Thing’ and ‘All I Want Is You (Ft. J. Cole)’, Miguel has been unable to make a dent on the album charts. However, the singer/songwriter is ready to try again with a new socially conscious record scheduled for release by April next year.
Miguel spoke to Rap-Up TV about the project that will demonstrate his skill as a writer to chronicle the times in which we live.. Furthermore, he described the record as “Electronic Hip-Hop meets classic Rock”.
See what Miguel had to say below about the album as well as what he shared about working on Usher’s next LP below:
As respectable as Miguel’s goals may be, he is undoubtedly take an enormous risk with this project. R&B artists struggling to make an impact in the current Dance/Pop climate and for an act of his status to attempt such a move is almost career suicide. Indeed, John Legend and The Roots tried a similar formula with their ‘Wake Up!’ collaborative album but have yet to go gold regardless of positive reviews from the critics.
It might be wiser for Miguel to tackle social commentary after he has scored a couple commercially successful albums or at least at least wait until R&B is once again the dominant genre in the industry like it was from 2003 to 2006.
