Brandy’s quest for artistic reinvention is going to take her into unexplored musical territory. The husky-voiced singer has summoned her longtime collaborator Timbaland to help redefine her sound and produce what she has termed “futuristic R&B”.
Brandy recently signed a joint record deal with RCA Records and Chameleon Records. Producer Rico Love previously disclosed that he will be pushing her to her limits as he intends to craft a “classic R&B” record for her.
Read what Brandy’s statements about the album, which coincidentally relate to our debate about her new sound, as well as her desire to work with Beyonce and Lady Gaga below:
SF: What can we expect from you in your upcoming album?
BN: The sound I am going for on the new album will be “futuristic R&B.” I want it to be different and new from R&B in the past and present, but not too different and new. I still want to be able to stay true to my R&B roots.I have a lot of new writers and producers to work with including Timbaland. I know my fans have been patiently waiting for new material from me and I want to give them what they deserve.
SF: Can’t wait to hear it! Who would be your dream song collaboration or dream co-star for a movie?
BN: In terms of music, I would have to say either Beyonce or Lady Gaga. I love Beyonce and she is one of my favorite artists. As for Lady Gaga, she is creative and talented musically. In terms of movies, I would love to work with Justin Timberlake because I like his style and everything he is doing in movies is really great. Also, I would love to do a movie with Denzel Washington of course. Who wouldn’t?

Hopefully, Brandy’s aspirations for a “futuristic” sound don’t reflect her desire to utilise Dance/Pop mechanics – namely auto-tune – on this record. Indeed, when many artists refer to developing a revolutionary sound, they equate that with Techno productions, especially when Timbaland is involved.
Instead, it would be exciting to hear Brandy create material similar to Danity Kane’s ‘Right Now’, which was also produced by Timbaland and featured a captivating interplay between drums and piano. Furthermore, it will give Brandy’s voice the opportunity to shine without being overwhelmed by thick production.
lady gaga is not creative or talented !
Her voice is too good for mechanics in production. I’m excited for her new music. She’s always been innovative and creative! I feel a good album coming along hopefully a mix between Full Moon and Afrodisiac (Full Afrodisiac) lol
I think it’s going to be something exciting and different as expected when it comes to Brandy’s music. The term “futuristic R&B” kind of gives me hints that this will be another “Full Moon”, which in that case, I rejoice! I’m excited for Brandy and I can’t wait to see everything she has in store as far as her music, film, and television.
YAAY!!! B-Rocka about to shut thangs down! =) Can’t fuckin wait.
I’m hoping this album is nice. I plan on buying it regardless because I want Brandy to succeed and I have always been a fan.
I love that she’s humble enough to compliment other artist .you don’t see that very often
Wow love Bran, but I wish people would stop recycling the same names when it come to collabs, like really? Bran better beware of what she wish for with those two, that’s all I’m saying.
I love Brandy, she may not be a force in mainstream music anymore but she brings something simply yet captivating. I loved Full Moon, who didnt so I hope she can bring that same energy! looking forward to this project.

Brandy being futuristic? Really?… child please.
Never say never is her best album ever! She doesn’t need to come out with these shitty and pretentious comments.
I’ll give it a listen though…
