Adele has done it again. After a short stint away from the top of the United World Chart, the Pop/Soul singer’s ’21′ has returned to tally’s peak for a 23rd week and extended its lead as the year’s top-selling LP to date.
’21′ sold another 262K copies this week and easily outpaced Tony Bennett’s ‘Duets II’ album, which debuted at #2 with 230K. The latter topped the Billboard 200 earlier this week with sales exceeding 179K copies and gave Bennett the honor of being the eldest living artist to achieve a #1 album in the US.
Adele’s ’21′ has now sold over 10.41 million units worldwide and remains the bestselling album of 2011. Last week the LP matched the record set by Usher’s ‘Confessions’ in 2004 for being the fastest-selling album of the last 10 years when hit passed the 10 million sales mark in only 34 weeks.
Meanwhile, Maroon 5 and Christina Aguilera’s ‘Moves Like Jagger’ continued to dominate the United World Track Chart for a 5th week after selling another 471K copies. The song was followed by Adele’s ‘Someone Like You’ – for which a video was released last evening – which sold 246K units.
