Ashanti has given her fans a glimpse of the musical direction of her upcoming album with this new song entitled ‘Never Too Far Away’. The track will appear on the ‘Dream House’ soundtrack and is just one of the many songs recorded by the singer in the last few months in addition to a collaboration with Lil Wayne.

Ashanti is clearly a major fan of Mariah Carey because not only does the latter have a song with the same title but Ashanti also emulated her singing style. From the wafting coos of her falsetto to the structure of the harmonies, this song could have easily been a demo for Carey.

Regardless of those similarities, this track is a respectable effort by Ashanti. Her voice has somewhat improved compared to her younger years and she seems to be on the right path toward finding the healthy balance of R&B and Pop that she will need to score airplay on contemporary radio.

Perhaps Brandy should try something similar to ‘Never Too Far Away’. You could leave your thoughts regarding that option here!
