Rihanna Scraps ‘Loud’ Rerelease; Readies New Album

Written by TriniTrent | Filed under Rihanna

Rihanna has been in the studio during the last few months while recording  material for a repackaged version of her ‘Loud‘ LP, which was due to hit stores later this year. However, the Pop star, who released the video for her latest single, ‘Cheers (Drink To That)’, just last month, has switched gears by scrapping the project in favour of an entirely new album.

Rihanna made the announcement on Twitter this morning that she didn’t want to tamper any further with her ‘Loud’ record because it should be respected as “its own body of work”. Instead, she will use the material recorded in her recent studio sessions for a new LP.

    ————————————————————

This news is not surprising at all. ‘Loud’ has been a very successful album with several #1 singles and judging by the fact that ‘Cheers’ has already climbed to #11 on the Billboard Hot 100, Rihanna will likely score a 4th chart-topper in the US by October. Therefore, there is simply no need to repackage the LP when it is thriving without a rereleased version.

Moreover, Rihanna experimented with various genres on ‘Loud’ – Country, Reggae, Reggae Fusion, Pop and Dance – but she has yet to develop a sound that is truly her own. With 6 years in the industry, she is certainly primed for a new era in her career that will depict her utilising everything that she has learned to create her own lane.

Indeed, Beyonce is currently at that exact stage in her development and has been lauded by critics for her attempts to forge her own unique sound. Hence, if Rihanna is as talented as her friends Drake, Jay-Z and Kanye West have claimed, then there is no reason why she can’t do the same.

It is time for Rihanna to start trends instead of adapting to those started by acts with actual talent and foresight. If she truly isn’t a puppet then she needs to prove it.

    Thoughts?

I’m not sure how I feel about it. I just want the bitch to take a break especially since “LOUD” was my least my favourite album!

    • Ugh

      take a break girl. …….geeze

i knew i smelled a new album with that new hairstyle…smfh

    • dannbfly

It would be more interesting to do a new album than a rerelease, but she needs atleast a one year break starting now,it would be nice to miss her!

    • ABC

New album every year smh…they’re milking this goat dry

    • matt

the truth is in writing, 6 albums in 6 years, a new album each year to remain relevant, heck even gaga released her second album with a completely different sound and is still as relevant as she was 2 years ago, and Beyonce, a totally new sound, and is still doing well, Rihanna – not so much

    • Nanci

      LMAO 2 that gif!

    • David

@matt that is completely false. do you know how much rihanna’s sound has changed? and beyonce isn’t nearly as popular as she was with sasha fierce, and gaga isn’t nearly as popular as she was with the fame. but rihanna is higher than she ever was. so sorry bitch, you’re wrong.

    • say what

I like rihanna however…. i don’t know who rihanna is an artist when she released ratedR she said oh this album reflects me dark, edgy and rebellious and than when she released loud she said oh this album reflects me colorful etc .. to me she just goes with the latest trends she seen Katy Perry with all these colourful wigs and colourful videos and so dyed her hair red and started making colourful videos like Katy

    • Me

Rihanna has always been a follower. Well… when her albums are successful, she’s following a trend but her first, second (?), and fourth albums (which was her own “thing”) haven’t done as well because no one cared for that crap (myself included). But don’t get me wrong, a lot of people like her so I don’t think she’ll fade off any time soon. And I have to disagree with Trent, Man Down was by far the WORST song on her album.

    • say what

@David 1st of all gaga is only on her 2nd album and her 1st album was more successful than all of rihanna’s 6…. and last time i checked gaga is still popular as she was during Fame she sold a million 1st week …. this may be rihanna’s best album but its still average for someone who’s been in the game for 6 years ……she was never and never will be as successful as gaga or beyonce

    • Rich

I’m here for vocalists ! I hope rihanna will improve vocally so i can take her seriously!

    • http://www.facebook.com/rory.maynor rory

      @say what

Her most successful album was Good Girl Bad (9 million copies worldwide). And she is as famous as Beyonce’ because she clearly conquered Beyonce’s entire market audience. Loud is almost at the 6 million mark. While Beyonce’s “4″ hasn’t even sold 1 million in the U.S. yet. It SHIPPED 1 million

    • ABC

Beyonce with 4 albums has still sold more then Rihanna with 5 albums lmfao…when it comes to total career accomplishments, Beyonce has achieved 10 times what Rihanna has lmao…Rihanna will never be on Beyonce’s level

    • http://www.facebook.com/rory.maynor rory

      @ABC

That’s not true. They’re records sales are about the same. Rihanna has albums that have sold more than Beyonce’s and Beyonce has albums that sold more than Rihanna. I hope this pregnancy gives Bey some more album sales because she needs them. It only took LOUD two months to SALE a million copies

Baffling. Rihanna? A follower? Like…. Last I checked she was the first to do the Pop/Dance & dark sound out of her peers. Umbrella/DSTM/Breaking Dishes/Disturbia all unique records started before the dance trend. Then Rated R was another unique piece of art delivered from Rihanna. Loud is nothing orignial and yes, caters to the current sound of music but there’s no denying the carribean influence in her records like Whats My Name, Rude Boy, Man Down etc. that sets her apart. This is just very baffling to me, but ok.

    • DIONFATALEI

even in Style Rihanna has always been different from her peers and done things outside of the box like….Really?
