Rihanna To Mentor On ‘The X Factor (US)’
Simon Cowell and the Fox executives are obviously quite anxious to make the upcoming season of ‘The X Factor (US)’ a hit because they have shockingly enlisted Rihanna to be a mentor on the show. Indeed, the former redhead, who now serves as the face of Armani Jeans, will assist LA Reid with his judging duties.
Mariah Carey has also been confirmed as a guest mentor on the show, which is set to premiere on September 21st. The diva will join Cowell as he selects his contestants to make it to the next round of competition.

It is baffling that anybody would consider Rihanna to be an ideal person to judge the singing or performing ability of people with real discernable talent. On the other hand, Jennifer Lopez, Cheryl Cole and Ellen Degeneres, who all served as judges on singing shows, hardly possess any musical ability themselves so this decision simply follows of the trend of seeking ratings rather than solid advice.
Luckily for Cowell, the show has yet to begin but he and Carey have already guaranteed their victory. Go team talent!

The fact that Rihanna is even considered to appear as a judge on a TV competition where singing is key, is baffling to me. It just goes to show you that having number 1 hits and selling a gazillion records can blind people into thinking that you actually possess talent. Rihanna has great songs, but she just fails miserably at translating her studio ability into a live performance. I will give her her props, though, she does have her moments that glimmer with hope of vocal improvement (ex: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7Ajlk_2-kgk).
