Ashanti Tries Again With Second Whitney Houston Tribute

Written by TriniTrent | Filed under Ashanti,Whitney Houston

Ashanti received mixed reviews when she performed covers of ‘I Have Nothing’ and ‘I Will Always Love You’ in tribute to Whitney Houston alongside legendary producer David Foster last week. However, the ‘Foolish’ singer tried to do the songs justice again when she joined Foster in Manila for his ‘David Foster & Friends Asian Tour’ on Tuesday.

Aside from her tribute shows, Ashanti is currently preparing her new single, ‘No Good’, for release later this year. It has yet to be confirmed is Foster has contributed any material to her long awaited followup album to 2008′s ‘The Declaration’.

    Watch Ashanti’s showing below:

Ashanti definitely handled the songs a lot better during this show than she did last week. There was less strain as she transitioned through her range and she very rarely fell flat.

However, the main issue was Ashanti’s tone. Before her voice was ravaged by years of drug abuse, Houston had a rich and pure tone that made her undeniably powerful voice an incredible force. Unfortunately for Ashanti, her tone is far less desirable.

On the bright side. Ashanti sounded much better than Houston did in the last five years. Yet, that is not a very difficult feat for anyone to accomplish.

    Thanks mrLDavis!

Not bad Ashanti, Not bad at all actually. Wow.

Wayyyy better than last week. But, I noticed in the 1st song where Ashanti held back on many of the big notes Whitney annihilates in the original.

Somebody print Ashanti a ‘most improved’ certificate from Microsoft Word. She’s definitely worthy.

      Ronald.. LOL

      QUEEN ASHANTI !!

    • DOMOdotSCORE

Is David Foster going to interrupt in every performance of ‘I Will Always Love You’? While it does give Ashanti a chance to catch her breath and prepare for the note, it’s irritating.

Anyways, between the two songs, Ashanti shines brightest on ‘I Have Nothing’. Overall, this performance was much better than the last.

Trent, i like the way you write, but how you try to shade ‘The Voice’ has become quite repetitive and bland tbh. It’s like, get over it. We all know Whitney has stopped drugs and her voice might not be the same after all these years, but she still has what’s left. You will get mad when people shade Mariah and you do the same all the time to Whitney.

    • IMO

      still not impressed

    • jjenn

good job ashanti im impressed…lot of these so called big pop artiste couldnt do what u just did…

    • Theman

She did good. Her falsetto is great. She showed better control here, and this one was more in tune with her voice. She can atleast sing. This to me is her way of saying that i can sing.

    • hater

      she sings barefoot. nasty

    • Entertainer

I can’t listen to her sing these songs without hearing Whitney’s version in my head which makes hers sounds mediocre

No. A World of No. She’s just yelling. No class, no technique, no meaning, no warmth. She shouldn’t have even been allowed in the same building as the sheet music to “I Will Always Love You.” We may as well let Cassie cover “Vision of Love” and Keri Hilson put her own spin on “The Power of Love.”
