Ashanti received mixed reviews when she performed covers of ‘I Have Nothing’ and ‘I Will Always Love You’ in tribute to Whitney Houston alongside legendary producer David Foster last week. However, the ‘Foolish’ singer tried to do the songs justice again when she joined Foster in Manila for his ‘David Foster & Friends Asian Tour’ on Tuesday.
Aside from her tribute shows, Ashanti is currently preparing her new single, ‘No Good’, for release later this year. It has yet to be confirmed is Foster has contributed any material to her long awaited followup album to 2008′s ‘The Declaration’.
Watch Ashanti’s showing below:
Ashanti definitely handled the songs a lot better during this show than she did last week. There was less strain as she transitioned through her range and she very rarely fell flat.
However, the main issue was Ashanti’s tone. Before her voice was ravaged by years of drug abuse, Houston had a rich and pure tone that made her undeniably powerful voice an incredible force. Unfortunately for Ashanti, her tone is far less desirable.
On the bright side. Ashanti sounded much better than Houston did in the last five years. Yet, that is not a very difficult feat for anyone to accomplish.
