The incredibly versatile Bruno Mars launched onto the stage of ‘The X Factor (UK)’ today. The singer/songwriter performed ‘Runaway Baby’ from his ‘Doo-Wops & Hooligans’ LP, which has thus far been certified double platinum in the UK.

Mars has enjoyed massive success on the Pop formats and ‘Doo-Wops & Hooligans’ has sold quite well across the globe but the inability of the US Urban community to accept him remains a perplexing scenario. Whether it is because of his appearance or the tone of is voice, his has been pigeonholed as a Pop artist.
If Mars promoted ‘Runaway Baby’ in the US, do you think it would be a hit on the Urban formats? On the other hand, if Usher released it, how well do you think it would chart?
Its because of his look
Doesn’t matter. He’s successful and lots of people considered to be a part of the U.S. “urban” demographic do like him and go to his shows. Radio formatting sucks anyway. It’s sucked for years.

this song is definitely more Pop than R&B. I can’t imagine hearing this on Urban radio tbh. It’s still a good song.
