Katy Perry kept things simple as she appeared on ‘The X Factor (UK)’ earlier this afternoon without the usual glamour of her onstage shows. Bolstered by a guitar, the singer/songwriter performed her new single, ‘The One That Got Away’, from her top-selling album, ‘Teenage Dream’.
Perry also attracted public attention earlier this week with her cover of Adele’s ‘Someone Like You’. Although she did not similarly use the song as part of a medley to achieve such results today, Perry will definitely stir excitement when she performs at the 2011 American Music Awards on November 20th alongside Nicki Minaj, Christina Aguilera and others.
Watch Perry’s rendition of ‘The One That Got Away’ below:
Perry is competent singer when she doesn’t attempt to push her voice beyond its limits and she takes the time to breathe. It would quite a treat to hear her delve into Pop/Rock and explore her artistry instead of relying on banal hits in an attempt to score heavy airplay. Still, it is highly unlikely that the executives at Capitol Records would allow one of their top acts to risk her popularity and that is a shame.
