Shortly after LA Reid took the reigns of the revamped Epic Label Group, rumours began to mount that he had launched negotiations to lure his biggest acts, including Mariah Carey and Jennifer Lopez, away from his former home of Island Def Jam. However, he didn’t have to work very hard to secure his goals because it seems that Carey has taken the bait.
While taunting her followers about an impending “epic surprise” on Twitter last evening, Carey and Reid engaged in a short round of playful banter about the prospect of her joining his new team. This development occurred barely a week after Reid and former Jive Records signee Ciara demonstrated similar behaviour.
Carey is currently recording hew new studio album with longtime collaborators Jermaine Dupri and Da Brat. As depicted in a previously released preview of a new interview with Barba Walters, she will appear on ’20/20′ on ABC on October 21st at 10pm ET to debut her twins and her future projects.
See what Carey and Reid had to say below:
MariahCarey 5 million followers & we haven’t even scratched the surface of what’s about to happen. Epic surprise coming up! http://t.co/xTRIUwKR 10/18/11 5:55 PM |

It is difficult to discern any information about this move at this time but if Carey has indeed returned to Sony Music Entertainment as part of ELG then that means that she would have bought out her contract with Universal Music Group so that she could avoid a possible messy break. That would certainly be a wise decision and it will allow her to launch the next era of her career with a new team as well as a new perspective.
i think technically mariah’s contract is up at idj. supposedly she only signed on for 3 albums with the option of a 4th (the christmas album). i hope she is off of idj, she needs a new team to market her correctly.
this will be great if its true!!! She needs to change labels, after TEOM they havent done anything for her.
She needs a total makeover, needs to change makeover, image and style, and just take a chance, I think thats the main reason of her last decline, she needs to make us excited over something new. (WHY is she working with Da Brat? dont nobody care about her, she needs to work with Missy or someone relevant, not Nikki. Why does she need to work with any rapper really?)
I am here for whatever MiMi wants to do. Hoping for another TEOM-style era.

I really hope she releases a greatest hits album(with a few new tracks) around Christmas!! WHY CAN’t IT BE FRIDAY??? !!! AHHHHHHHHHHHHH! #Lamb4Life
folks this is not the 90′s anymore and everyone talking about the emancipation, she had 1 hit cd the entire decade?????? the rest just did ok and now she is 42 and a mother of two still trying to be sexy? unless she changes up her image and goes back to making real music, she can hang it up
Right, her original deal was 3 albums, with an option for a 4th, 7m advance for each but Memoirs was her 4th album. Xmas was the 5th so something happened. She did say she was doing the Christmas album with or without them on her side so *shrug*
Mimi signed a new contract after E=MC2. The second contract was for 3 albums, (Memoirs,Christmas) so maybe she’ll do a greatest hits.
it doesn’t matter if she changes label if she doesn’t change her vamped image, that’s played out and wearing jr size clothing doesn’t help either.
