Did you know that Mariah Carey originally wrote her classic hit ‘Hero’ with the intention of giving it to Gloria Estefan?

Penned by Carey and her former writing partner Walter Afanasieff, ‘Hero’ was initially created for Estefan to sing on the soundtrack of a 1992 film of the same name. However, when Carey’s ex-husband and boss, Tommy Mottola, heard the record he insisted that she kept the song for her own ‘Music Box’ album.

‘Hero’, which was released 18 years ago as of today, eventually became Carey’s 8th #1 single on the Billboard Hot 100 when it topped the chart in 1993. The record is often regarded as one of the diva’s signature songs alongside ‘Vision of Love’, ‘Butterfly’ and ‘We Belong Together’.

   Thank god she kept the song. Senorita Estefan is not known for her powerhouse vocals.

   I don’t even like Hero. Its quintessential corny. The best thing about it is its a nice singalong moment for the audience at a concert. I’m sure her royalty checks over the years don’t mind but yah… Anytime You Need A Friend>>>>>>>>>Hero
