Did you know that today is the 16th anniversary of Mariah Carey highest-selling album in the US, ‘Daydream’?

Released on October 3rd 1995, ‘Daydream’ was the diva’s 2nd diamond album following ‘Music Box’ and remains her most successful album in the US. The record was ranked as the 2nd best-selling album of 1996 in the US and the 18th most successful release during the period of 1990 to 1999. Worldwide, ‘Daydream’ has sold over 25 million copies and is Carey’s 2nd highest-selling album after ‘Music Box’, which sold over 32 million units.

‘Daydream’ also spawned 3 consecutive #1 singles, including the eventual Billboard Song of the Decade, ‘One Sweet Day’, which held the top spot on the Billboard Hot 100 for 16 consecutive weeks. Additionally, the project was nominated for 6 Grammy Awards at the 1996 ceremony but Carey won none.

    Now you know!

For our generation, this album cover is so iconic. I feel like every friend I ever had when I was younger had this cd. It was a must-have for any pop/R&B fan! You can STILL listen to the album and it doesn’t sound too dated!

Back then when mariah was a mother fucking factor lol jk I love that fat bitch ;)

The first MC album I ever bought. I remember hearing on the radio “anytime you need a friend” but I didn’t know the name of the song, I just knew “this Mariah something” was singing. I went to the record store and since Daydream was the only MC album on the shelves I thought that was the one including AYNAF. Later on I realized the song wasn’t there but I didn’t mind because I FUCKING LOVED Daydream, her voice & her music were unparalleled. After Daydream came Music Box, Emotions and her first album – until I got the whole collection. That’s how my lambily journey started lol.
      Sweet 16 Daydream! :D

    • Shea Butter

This album and Music box were Epic!! Mariah was unfucking stoppable! I love this album!

I love the fan favorites “One Sweet Day”, “Fantasy”, “Always be my baby”, but I really love the extremely underrated “Underneath The Stars”, and the smooth effortless “Melt Away”…….but my absolute favorite is the show stopping performance she gives during “Forever”
