The November 1st due date of Justin Bieber’s ‘Under the Mistletoe’ album is merely days away so it was no surprise that he released another song to further entice his fans for the record. Indeed, following the lead single, ‘Mistletoe’, is Bieber’s cover of ‘The Christmas Song (Chestnuts Roasting on an Open Fire)’, which features Usher.
Footage of Bieber and Usher recording the classic tune was issued last weekend. ‘The Christmas Song’ is one several tracks on the album that feature blockbuster appearances. Other acts who have lent their vocals to the project include Boyz II Men, Busta Rhymes and Mariah Carey.
Listen to the song below:
The thick layers of studio production utilised to make Bieber’s voice tolerable on this track were incredibly blatant. Moreover, he certainly tried emulate the vocal runs of Usher – his mentor – but his almost metallic voice lacked direction and he sounded as though he was emulating random vocal runs that he heard his friend Chris Brown doing while warming up before a show.
Perhaps, Bieber should consider developing a better understanding of R&B music instead of simply imitating his peers. In fact, a few visits to the right Baptist church could do wonders for him.
