Simon Cowell has been making the media rounds to promote his latest hit series, ‘The X Factor (US)’. In his latest appearance, the mogul visited ‘The Wendy Williams Show’ to discuss the series and also shared his thoughts regarding music’s biggest stars, including Whitney Houston for whom he boasts great admiration.
In fact, Cowell insisted that the struggling diva, who will star in the upcoming remake of ‘Sparkle’, “still has it” and that she will always be a “megastar”. In addition to these remarks, he also spoke about Houston’s fellow icon Mariah Carey as well as Lady Gaga and Christina Aguilera.
However, this isn’t the first occasion where Cowell discussed the industry’s divas. He previously appeared on ‘Extra’ alongside LA Reid where he reflected on an awkward meeting with Beyonce following several scathing remarks that he made about her voice.
Watch Cowell’s appearance on the show below:
Clearly, when Cowell spoke about Houston still having “it” he was referring to her star power and not her voice. If that is the case then he was quite accurate because despite her many whacky antics, public tantrums, battles with drug addiction and often unkept appearance, Houston has built a legacy that will never be questioned.
Indeed, no other female artist has matched the impact that Houston made on the industry with ‘The Bodyguard’ era and it is highly improbable that any act today has to potential to accomplish that feat. She may not be able to sing any of the songs from that soundtrack today but that won’t change the fact that she did it 18 years ago.

is it impossible for you to do a non-bias post on whitney? lol!
@sam yes it is, he’s a H8R…
He better stan for Mimi & Whitney! Yasss
I never thought of Wendy having a similar personality like Mimi’s.. ummm.
I think it’s safe to say also that he doesn’t like Christina much or at least he’s not a fan at all. LOL
He’s such a funny guy! “whatever she wants — whenever she wants” dead!

So, why does Trent seem to forget this everytime he compares her to Mariah?
I dont think Wendy is anything like Mariah. I cannot stand Wendy and I adore Mariah.
it KILLS him to have to say good things about Whitney, but whether or not she can sing any of the songs from the Bodyguard the point is she was the one who set the standard that NO ONE has yet to come close to
As a Mariah stan, you cannot love Whitney. I clearly see the shade is inevitable.
Simon loves Whitney she is i of the fre stars that serves it right back to him with sass!lol! Trent stay pressed. Mariah don’t sound like daydreams or most of her back catalogue & can’t sustain a belt so build a bridge and get over it
Whitney’s the gold standard and simon knows it- he says it’s the reason why AI was started to find the next whitney! That’s impact!
whitney is hardly unkept. whenever she steps out professionally she is always dressed well and appropriate for her age.
now your other diva dresses like a teen and often inappropriate with undersized baby clothes but no mention of that.
whitney ALWAYS is glammed up at professional events.
the lambs are coming for us! hehe
Facts are facts! Whitney Houston isn’t who she was back in the day and hasn’t been close in quite some time. Her performances during the “I Look To You” era was quite scary and she hasn’t been herself lately even though sources claim she is sober. Regardless of how she sounds today, her record on yesteryears is untouched.
well I love Whitney…I wish people would leave her alone. She is an icon and most of the singers today wish they could sing like her.
You are such a pressed little hoe…… we all know that Mariah can’t sing anymore!
