Way Back Wednesday has returned with a vengeance this week with a special edition dedicated to the some of the industry’s most talented women – the divas! However, nobody could honor these women better than they can do for themselves so we have compiled a list of performances where they do just that by covering each other’s songs in ‘Divas Singing Divas’!

Watch several of music’s most renowned women, including Christina Aguilera, Mariah Carey and Beyonce, cover each other’s songs as they paid tribute to each other below:

It is always a gripping experience to hear singers deliver their own versions of each other’s material because they always bring a new perspective to the music. Naturally, the competitive element is also an exciting aspect as we get to compare their versions and ask ourselves, “who did it better?”

However, there is one performance that was not included above and it would be a crime if it was overlooked. It was the showing that helped to earn a chart-topping superstar her recording contract and catapulted her to fame. Of course, we are referring to Rihanna’s tribute to her idol, Mariah Carey, with her show-stopping rendition of ‘Hero’.

  That was a REALLY good Way back Wednesday. Mariah gave me life! Beyonce gave me emotion, Aretha took me to church, Christina took me back to my childhood, Whitney was stunning and Rihanna gave me the giggles!
  
  For me the up and coming Diva’s are Jessie J, Alexandra burke and Leona Lewis.
  Trent, you should have included Jennifer Hudson too!

  Although no one can sing hero like Mariah, Aretha sounded good. Beyonce sounded better singing Sweet Love than Dangerously in love. Christina needs to sing like that again, that was perfection. I miss those vocals. Whitney was singing from her uterus for Bobby. Rihanna sounded better at 15 before she had a vocal coach than she does now with a vocal coach (either she’s under learning or that teacher is under teaching). That is something terrible.

  I decided to watch it backwards. rihanna started off ok.. the first 120 sec and then it was downhill from there. Whitney & Aretha have that “Holy ghost” powerhouse voice after you been baptized in the river. Mariah will always have the honey/angelic voice and Christina is raw but powerful. Unfortunately today powerhouse voice are not profitable except for Adele and only because she is the “new” Annie Lennox.

  To be fair I think Rihanna did pretty good especially considering the fact that she didn’t have a vocal trainer and wasn’t getting paid top dollars at the time like the others. The videos were taken out of context everyone else is at award shows and what not and Rihanna was probably at a local competition in Barbados. Oh and this is coming from someone who isn’t even a crazy stan.
