Drake: “Rihanna & Nicki Minaj Are The Most Iconic Females In Music Today”

Written by TriniTrent | Filed under drake,Nicki Minaj,Rihanna

Drake has never been shy about expressing his emotions regarding Rihanna and Nicki Minaj but it seems that his feelings have started to affect his judgement. In fact, during an interview with Google Music, the rapper shared his views regarding both woman as “the most iconic females” in music today.

Both Rihanna and Minaj are featured on Drake’s recently released ‘Take Care’ album. The former appeared on the record’s title track whereas Minaj guested on ‘Make Me Proud’.

Watch Drake make his controversial statements below:

So in Drake’s perspective, having a few timely hits and wearing an array of colourful outfits are the key facets of being an icon? I guess that I was wrong to think that having a major cultural impact on the industry and establishing a lasting legacy were the most critical elements toward achieving icon status. In that case, Aretha Franklin, Whitney Houston, Mariah Carey, Ray Charles and the dozens of other artists who most of us have been calling icons throughout the years should just retire the phrase.

    Is that correct, Drake?

    Thanks Hip-Hop N More!

    Thoughts?

Did you realize that he said today?? Today. Means now. Tomorrow she wont be Iconic. She will only be an artist.

    • Jasmine

Blasphemy! Icons? Really? What is so iconic about rihanna and nicki? Being as though I look at people like Prince, Michael Jackson, Mother Aretha…who by the way are all in the rock and roll hall of fame and have changed music…how are Rihanna and nicki icons?

    • ny

Aubrey girl! What you been smoking???

    • trish

drake please sit,u make some pretty good songs but ur not even iconic yourself lol and clearly you’re “love struck” by both women so your opinion is invalid. Both women are successful but being iconic is about more then hit singles and awards…….or at least it use to be.Until they can put on a good show more often then not, last for a couple of decades, take a couple years off between music, inspire people outside of just the way they dress, make meaningful song that can last the ages, take more interest in the writing and singing/rapping of their songs rather then their spunky attitudes and stage attire etc they will not be consider legends.
This is not hate, they both make some fun music I like to listen to sometimes and they may become iconic one day but right now they’re not.People need to stop throwing words around so loosely lol.

While obviously his opioin is bias considering he just said nicki was his favorite person in general and plus he wants to marry the girl and rihanna of course had her thing with drake . But to be honest I sorta get where he is coming from

    • Guess What

Drake is stupid & he sounds stupid. There is NOTHING iconic about Rhiherpes & a plastic Kim clone. This fruit cake makes me laugh, he is a joke. When you have 20 yrs under your belt, then you’re an ICON. All 3 of them will never see it. Keep on being Wayne’s & Baby’s butt buddy & STFU.

    • The Truth

This is Drake we are talking about. He also thinks Trey Songz is the BEST male singer. He continues to embarrass himself smh.

    • Alexia

Drake needs to take his head out their p*ssy and come back down to reality!!! LMAO this n*gga done lost his mind. Nicki and Rihnna must have been good f*cks cause all he seems to do is talk about them. Like damn Drake. Still love him though. Lol

    • MISHKA

      Drakesha has issues, my people.

    • Girrrl

That gif! Thanks for the bday present. ;)

    • OnlyMiklo

Drake can be delusional, but we will know at some point of Nicki will be iconic. She has one album out and it was AIGHT…. Give her 10 more years to see if we get completely bored. Rihanna may gain iconic status in a few more years. Her name is etched in music history only after 6 years in the business with history that is not easily overtaken. So we will see. Iconic as of today…. possibly because you forget about the Beyoncés and Mariahs and Whitneys because they arent doing ANYTHING right now…. When it comes to the people you hear about its Adele, Rihanna, Katy, Gaga….. They are the closest we will have to iconic in our day but they need more time.

    • MoniSOChill

^^^^ Go to bed…..you can’t possibly be up and ready to have a productive day by typing that bull that just appeared on my screen.

    • RICH

DRAKE KNOWS WHAT TO SAY. HE IS A TRUE R&B ARTIST. THERE IS REALLY NOTHING HIP HOP ABOUT HIM. CHECK OUT THE NEW WEBSITE http://WWW.ALLABOUTBEATS.COM TO HEAR THE HOTTEST HIP HOP\R&B INSTRUMENTALS

    • babe

Using a gif with drake in it is the best way to seal this post. Albereda talks too much and is just in her own world. Typical Canadian!

    • lifefromthefarside

      LOL and that’s about it!

    • Jessi

Too funny Trent!!! HAHA Another great post! That GIF!

    • Tahj M.

Yeh and Kraeyshawn is a LEGEND … GTOH !
Drake probably thinks he’s iconic himself , these delusional new generation of artists is funny .

    • oiiiiiii jazmine

First the dream and his Madonna reference and now this smhh

Drakes opinions are completely biased because hes always crying about getting in her panties (if he hasnt already) so he’s just saying whatever he thinks it will take 2 get Rihs milkshake. Drake and the dream needs to stfu with all this Rihanna bullshit…theyre basically putting her in shoes she can’t fit…there’s nothing iconic about Rihanna except her wigs and even that gets snatched day after day

    • DIONFATALEI

Like it or not Rihanna is already up there with icons far as breaking them records….Just Saying.

    • Ariana

“Drakesha” I know is silly but still funny HAHAHAHA

No further comments on Drake’s statements, girl is just being delusional.

    • jasmine

Aretha Franklin is an Icon…rihanna is not

    • DIONFATALEI

@jasmine Rihanna is sure to be a POP icon. Like it or not.

    • oiiiiiii jazmine

@Dionfatalei Wat has she done to change, Influence or magnify pop music? Oh colorful wigs right? She will not be an icon. She is noy a tremd setter…shes a trend follower. Icons blaze trails that all future stars will try to follow or conquer…Rihanna only blazed a trail for the local beauty supply stores “Ming lee lemme get that Rihanna wig on the 2nd shelf” oooops

    • oiiiiiii jazmine

*trendsetter (and yes she’s a trend follower in FASHION & MUSIC)

    • Cliff

he is a joke to even say that, along with the ones he mentioned

    • chitwnborn

Im SOOOO over these “cliqued up” Artists kissing eachothers butts.
Drake’s statement is FAAAARRRR from truth, fact, and reality. Drake has a crush on those two (and lil wayne) so he will say anything to stay tight with them. smh

    • Ugh

no wonder rihanna dont want him. trying to damn hard

    • jasmine

@dionfatale what has she done to change music? You really wanna put her up there with people like Marvin Gaye, Prince, Michael, Aretha, Mariah, Whitney? what has she contributed to music besides fashion? its hard for me to take her seriously to be an icon when she first, doesn’t even write her own material.

    • NKE

Drake is full of shit. i like is music but this comment is wrong.

    • DOMOdotSCORE

Well, Rihanna and Nicki are icons. They represent the increasing degradation of true artistry in music. So technically Drake is right in his assertion that they are “iconic”.
Drake is my favorite and all and he has a right to his opinion but there are some thoughts that should stay in the mind and this is one.

    • Audrey

I love but Drake, but he clearly doesn’t know what “icon” means. Within years Nicki & Rihanna will be done and gone. And besides he is obsessed w/ both of them so I guarantee that is where this thought arises from.

    • plain & simple

Fuc* Drake who everyone knows that he in love with those two no-talent bitches

    • LurkerG

      Visually iconic YES, they are.
