Did you know that Whitney Houston’s ‘I Will Always Love You’ was only ranked at #68 among the 100 most successful songs on the Billboard Hot 100 during the 50-year period of 1958 to 2008?
Despite spending 14 weeks at the top of the chart, Houston’s cover of ‘I Will Always Love You’ placed at #68 on the lineup. Songs that ranked higher on the list included Nelly’s ‘Dilemma (Ft. Kelly Rowland)’ at #64, Kanye West’s ‘Gold Digger (Ft. Jamie Foxx)’ at #49 and Mariah Carey’s ‘We Belong Together’ at #9.
However, ‘I Will Always Love You’ did earn Houston the distinction of being the first woman to achieve a triple platinum single in the US as well as a Grammy Award for Best Female Pop Vocal Performance. Watch the diva’s rendition of the tune at the 1994 Grammy ceremony below:
