New Song: Rihanna – ‘You Da One’

Written by Trent | Filed under Rihanna

Earlier this week, Rihanna announced that she would be releasing a new single and delivered on her promise this morning. ‘You Da One’ is the second official single from the Pop star’s upcoming ‘Talk That Talk‘ album, which will hit stores on November 21st.

The lead single from ‘Talk That Talk’, ‘We Found Love’, reclaimed the #1 spot on the Billboard Hot 100 earlier this week and gave Rihanna of tying Beyonce with 36 cumulative weeks at the top of the tally. ‘You Da One’ is set to build on that momentum when it is issued on iTunes on November 13th.

Listen to ‘You Da One’ below:

‘You Da One’ follows the structure of the typical crossover Pop song - repetitive hook, simple melodies and easily replicated vocals that would make it easy for any 6-year old at the bus stop to imitate, thus appealing to the most simple-minded people in society. Really, Rihanna obviously does not care about artistic growth or exploring her true artistic potential. Instead, she is aiming to score as many nonsensical hits as possible because the history books only reflect quantity, not quality.

However, if that is truly the case, then Rihanna’s team  should refrain from comparing her to artists who helped to redefine popular culture. Indeed, the only time her name should be next to Whitney Houston or Janet Jackson is when it is listed on the Billboard charts and not in any knowledgable discussion about musical impact or artistic depth.

That gif has to be the greated use of a gif in history! But on a serious not you spoke the truth Trent. Rihanna only wants to score as many hits as possible. She doesn’t care about being a credible artist!

      Gif slays

Same ole ish just a different day for this girl.

    • MK81091

Where’s the artistic growth.. it’s the same song with a different beat… music with no depth or meaning.. just mindless garbage.

    • almostpia

      On point as usual, Trent!

    • http://www.twitter.com/d0wj0nes D0wJ0nEs

it’s aiight… nothing special. I found other snippets from the album more intriguing than this track but I’m sure it will shoot straight to number 1. Rihanna makes “pop radio crack” and the navy rolls deep on itunes. We Found Love’s video really sold the song… i really hope her and Melinda got something else “epic” up there sleeve, they’ll need it

    • Ugh

repetitive like We Found Love. Trent you are right on point.

    • Loni

ah I see the usual haters are still pressed & pissed, watch them be even more pissed when it hits #1 while their faves barely know what a top 5 looks like

    • gdboyratedloud

wasnt u da one saying she needa stick to urban rnb dancehall crossover???????????????????? and its not working fix it!!!!!!

    • WonderLand19

I like it, very catchy. Rihanna doesn’t want to be a legend or even credible so this song fits its purpose. I do think she needs to take a break. Releases a album every year isnt improving her craft or her health. plus, she needs to stop smoking.

    • BeyonceFan

I think it’s worth noting that it took her 11 number one singles to hit 36 weeks, Beyoncé did it in 5. Rihanna may have the glam to pull you in but no substance to hold you over. The one thing she lacks, besides real talent, is staying power. She’ll be number one for two weeks and then te song is too annoying to listen to.

    • lostluv224

      this song ain’t it.

    • BEYONCEFLOPS

Beyonce has no substance or depth so yea you tried and failed that @Beyoncefans and you forgot to mention that she hasn’t had a #1 since 2008 let alone a top 10 hit since then..

However, there is NOTHING wrong with being an artist that makes fun pop records! Every artist does not have to be deep on every or any single if that’s not truly what they are. What she is doing is working for her so y’all will just have to deal.

    • @Che_Pertillo

I get what you’re saying Trent, but, Rihanna knows her lane and is sticking to it.

I don’t care for this song, and that’s all I got.

    • BrwnHony

Omg!!!Trent you give me life with every post and Gif I agree with your post completely Rih is a “hot for now”artist if she ever takes a break it’s over she has no quality body of work just nice ringtones

I don’t really like this song…i can’t believe she chose this as a single. This seems like an album filler.

This is kinda getting repetitive….c’mon Riri.

    • Ariana

      That gif…BAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHA
      Slamshut! *walks out*

    • Sir Sim

her best song? no. but still a very cute single that will appeal to younger listeners. i like the direction of the album

    • Plain & Simple

Trent, you scored on that comment. So true the words.

    • NKE

it sounds good. this will last all christmas season. not wow about it but i like it

    • OLIVIA

nothing special but its cute at best but kinda annoying at the same time

    • http://www.facebook.com/rory.maynor rory

this whole conversation that a lot of ya’ll are having is pointless because most of you all didn’t like “We Found Love” and it is #1 in MULTIPLE COUNTRIES so the negative opinions obviously don’t matter. Radio and itunes is going to eat this new song up. Ya’ll keep saying album after album that her time is up…. and clearly she’s still here as a front runner among female artists today, so shut and hop on the bandwagon. lol. Because half of the people ya’ll do like are flopping right now.

    • Americanboi

I didn’t LOVE We Found Love, but i did like it… i knew from the 1st time i heard it that it would go number 1 because of the house music sound. Radios are really into that pop/house music sound now.

This single…won’t go number 1. It might do well…bc its Rihanna and i’m sure she will support it with some great visuals, but i don’t it will go #1. This songs sounds damn near like a nursery rhyme. It sounds like the theme song of a Disney show. I expect better of her. If Rihanna isn’t consistent with anything she is with her single choices.

    • Breezytodeath

      The gif slays!!! Lmaoooo!!

    • DOMOdotSCORE

It’s alright. It’ll probably grow on me as time goes by. I understand that Rihanna has a lane and she’s very consistent. But I’m really hoping that one day, she will want more for her ‘legacy’ and actually work with people who care about less about statistics and more about substance. Although I don’t expect her music to be top shelf, I still want it to be better, seeing as she is supposed to the HBIC. She doesn’t have to change the subject matter, she just needs better lyrics and not this nursery rhyme stuff that she’s peddling. Honestly, after this album, she needs to take a long break (like 1-2 years if she can). She and her label has put too much pressure on her to give an album every year so she rushes to get it done. She and her music never get a chance to breathe.

Her team is great. They give her hit songs.
I wish Chris Brown’s team was as smart. They want his mixtape song “Strip” to be the first single of his next album. Ugh!

Most of his fans hate that song and are disgusted he wants it to be a single, when it has no potential to cross over. And he may not even do well on urban radio. Can you imagine the video – strippers?

ugh. her team rocks. makes me annoyed that others artists’ teams aren’t as smart and savvy.
