Rihanna mania continued today when she called ‘On Air with Ryan Seacrest’ to promote her new single, ‘You Da One’, and her upcoming ‘Talk That Talk’ album. However, amidst basic discussions about her project, the Pop star made a rather interesting comment abou the future direction of her career – “I don’t want to become a gimmick.”
While insisting that she has placed more emphasis on her artistry, Rihanna averred that she ditched her array of colourful hairstyles and outfits so that people would focus on her music. Furthermore, she gave an explanation about how she battled to develop her own identity as an artist.
Listen to what Rihanna had to say below:
Honestly, Rihanna’s ‘We Found Love’ video did exemplify a more telling side to her artistry than many of her previous releases. However, to say that her focus has shifted toward her artistry when most of her songs are simply following the banal trends of Pop music without any depth or even basic thought is quite shameless.
In fact, although Rihanna has toned down her bright colours of her wig collection, her music is even more gimmicky than ever before – auto-tune, recurring lyrics and recycled beats that make it obvious that she is aiming to score a radio hit. Hence, Rihanna’s fashion choices may not be linked to any major marketing scheme, as they were during the ‘Rated R’ and ‘Loud’ eras, but her music is the very definition of trendy.
Dear Rihanna, you can’t fool me.
