Rihanna became the first female artist in history to score 6 #1 singles on the Official UK Singles Chart earlier this year and now that her ‘Talk That Talk’ album has been released, she has nabbed yet another spot in the history books. In fact, the Pop star has positioned herself in a class with the King of Pop himself, Michael Jackson.
‘Talk That Talk has become Rihanna’s third #1 album on the UK Albums Chart after selling over 160K copies in its first week. In addition to being certified platinum for shipments exceeding 300K units, the LP has become her second #1 album of 2011 after her ‘Loud’ collection topped the tally in January. Rihanna has been listed the first female act to achieve that feat, following similar accomplishments by Michael Jackson, REM, Elton John, Blondie and Robbie Williams.
Furthermore, with her “We Found Love’ single still atop the UK Singles Chart, Rihanna has earned the title of being the only female performer to simultaneously dominate both the albums and singles chart within the same calendar year as ‘What’s My Name? (Ft. Drake)’ and ‘Loud’ concurrently occupied the top spots earlier in 2011. The last time that an artist accomplished that feat was in 1972.
