Sales indicators that projected that Drake’s ‘Take Care’ would enter the Billboard 200 at #1 within the range of 625K to 725K copies have proven to be quite accurate. In fact, the record has debuted with sales exceeding 631K units.
‘Take Care’ boasted the 3rd highest first week sales of 2011 thus far, behind Lady Gaga’s ‘Born This Way’ (1.108 million) and Lil Wayne’s ‘Tha Carter IV’ (964K). Drake’s previous release, ‘Thank Me Later’, also entered the Billboard 200 at #1 in 2010 with 447K copies sold.
Over on the Billboard Hot 100, Rihanna has notched a 4th week at #1 with ‘We Found Love’. This feat brought her total number of weeks at the top of the chart to 38 and further extended her lead over Beyonce, who has clocked 36.
Remarkably, Rihanna’s close friend Katy Perry also accomplished an impressive result this week as her latest single, ‘The One That Got Away’, climbed from #15 to #10 and earned her a 6th top 10 song from her ‘Teenage Dream’ album. Thanks to boost from her performance at the 2011 American Music Awards, ‘Teenage Dream’ has become only the 7th album in history to produce as many top 10 hits on the Hot 100.
