Shortly after LA Reid assumed leadership of Epic Records earlier this year, rumours began to swirl that he would lure Jennifer Lopez out of her contract with Island Def Jam and into the Sony Music Entertainment fold. Now, just as the buzz about the move had begun to wane, public comments from the pair of media moguls have reignited excitement from onlooking fans.
Lopez told her fans on Twitter this morning that she was sharing some music with Reid as she sought his guidance for an unnamed new project. Naturally, the always outspoken Reid quickly responded and wasn’t shy about his enthusiasm for the material.
Ironically, Lopez previously left Epic and was signed by Reid to Def Jam. However, the latter eventually left the label and followed Doug Morris to Sony.

Whether Lopez has already made the switch back to Epic has yet to be confirmed but it is highly probable that she is preparing to leave Def Jam. Think about it: why would an artist on Def Jam share music with the head one of her label’s biggest competitors?
Also, Reid engaged in similar antics with Ciara earlier this year and she eventually joined Epic. Hence, it seems like it will only be a matter of time before Lopez announces a new deal. If not, then she better pray that Fiat launches a record label because her horrible ‘Love?’ album sales – 293K copies since May – definitely did not impress Def Jam executives.
