Did you know that Christopher Cross was the first artist to win all of the major categories at the Grammy Awards?
Aside from winning Best Arrangement for his #1 hit single ‘Sailing’, Cross’ self-titled 5x platinum debut LP won the Album of the Year title at the 1981 Grammy Awards. Furthermore, he claimed the Record of the Year as well as Song of the Year honors for ‘Sailing’ and earned the Best New Artist trophy, therefore making him the first artist to sweep all four major fields in one night at the Grammys.
Ironically, Cross has yet to win another Grammy for his work. On the bright side, the singer/songwriter did nab the Academy Award and the Golden Globe for Best Original Song for ‘Arthur’s Theme (Best That You Can Do)’ in 1981.
