After six years and multiple mixtapes since the release of her self-titled debut album in 2005, Teairra Mari has finally departed from World Star Hip-Hop to debut the first official single from her long await sophomore album. The record, entitled ‘U Did Dat’, was produced and written by Rico Love and D-Town.
Mari actually signed to Love’s Division1 label on Universal Motown in August. However, the news was mared by her arrest for drunk driving shortly afterward.
Listen to ‘U Did Dat’ below:
‘U Did Dat’ is an impressive R&B record that would probably be a winner on Urban radio. However, it was difficult to overlook the sound of this tune and many of Love’s other productions, particularly those he crafted for Kelly Rowland.
Still, Mari sounds very impressive on the record and it is clear that she has been improving her vocals instead of just wasting valuable time by covering Drake songs and making random appearance on ‘Love & Hip-Hop’. Hopefully, Mari scores a hit with this upcoming project because she is deserving of success.
Thanks Rap-Up!
Good for her…
Love it! Can’t wait for her album.
Parts of her vocals have Ciara inflections. I don’t want her to do this on a full album.
