2011 has been a busy year for artists throughout the music industry who had to work harder than ever to market their releases amidst the slow sales climate and increasing pressures to generate profits for their respective labels. As such, acts took to the road for various tour ventures and the top-grossing shows have been compiled on Pollstar’s list of the Top 25 Worldwide Tours of the year.
Shockingly, Rihanna landed the most successful show among the Urban performers at #7 on the list after accumulating over $90 million in revenue from her ‘Loud Tour’, which ended on December 22nd at London’s 02 Arena. Despite initially slow sales in the US, her string of #1 singles eventually attracted a massive turnout at her European dates.
Other high-grossers were Britney Spears’ ‘Femme Fatale Tour’, which wrapped in Puerto Rico on December 11th with over $68.7 million in ticket sales at #11, and Sade’s ‘Sade Live’ tour at #9 with $83.3 million. Shakira also notched a spot on the list at #20 with her ‘Sale El Sol Tour’, wich grossed $53.2 million in revenue before ending in October.
