Billboard previously announced that Adele’s ‘Rolling in the Deep’ and ’21′ were the Top Song and Top Album of the December 4th 2010 to November 26 2011 period, respectively. However, the singer’s domination did not end there as it has been revealed that both titles were also the top-selling releases of the 52-week 2011 year that ended on January st 2012.
‘Rolling in the Deep’ sold a remarkable 5.81 million downloads in the US and was crowned as the best-selling digital single of 2011. Addition to being the first track to sell over 5 million downloads within a calendar year, the tune held the pole position of the Billboard Hot 100 for 7 weeks – second to Rihanna’s ‘We Found Love’ as the song with the longest run at the top of the chart in 2011.
However, Adele’s reign also expanded onto the the albums tally. ’21′ sold over 5.82 million copies in the US after only 44 weeks. Astoundingly, the record has yet to leave the top 10 of the Billboard 200 and only slipped from top 5 once. With 14 weeks at #1, ’21′ has also become the best-selling album of a calendar year since Usher’s ‘Confessions’, which 7.98 million copies in 2004.
