JLS have established themselves as the leading Pop group of the UK but it appears that they are planning to detour into a more Urban direction with their new album. In fact, the quartet have enlisted some of the heavyweights of the US R&B music scene – Babyface, Sean Garrett and Bangladesh – to help them craft their new sound.
Additionally, in an effort to add depth to their grossly shallow sound, JLS have also expressed a desire to work with Adele. Speaking of the Soul singer’s talent, JLS member Marvin noted that he would love to log time in the studio with the “incredible songwriter.”
Read exactly what JLS had to say about their fourth album below:
You’ve started work on your fourth album; how’s it going?
Marvin: “We’re halfway through it at the moment and we’ve already put a lot of material together. We’re off to Los Angeles tomorrow to work with Babyface, Sean Garrett – who’s one of America’s biggest songwriters – and Bangladesh (Rihanna, Lil Wayne). We’ll be there for two weeks to wrap it up and then we’re back in the UK for our tour. Then we’ll prepare to release our new single.”
That’s four albums in four years. Surely you must be knackered?
Marvin: “People always say we’re working too hard, but we’re constantly writing all the time for fun. We write together, individually and in pairs so it means we often get a lot of material together very quickly.”
You’ve said you want to work with Ed Sheeran on the album. Does that mean this LP will sound a bit more stripped-back?
Aston: “Definitely. There’s already been a few moments like that on our previous albums, but we want to take some of it back to our roots from when we first began. We love the way that Ed performs on stage – it’s incredible. We think we could do something amazing together in the studio. We believe it’s all in the pipeline.”
Marvin: “I’d love to write with Adele as well. She’s an incredible songwriter, but recently she only seems to be credited for her albums sales. It’s only ever her and one producer and her in the studio. We’d love to set something up with her.”

It looks as though JLS are finally taking their music seriously. Thus far, their catalogue has been comprised only a range of singles and nothing that has defined them as unique or even memorable. Hence, working with real artists who make real music could help reinvent JLS into a respectable band.
