Did you know that famed composer and activist Nina Simone did not write or even originally record her classic tune ‘Feeling Good’?
‘Feeling Good’ was originally written by Anthony Newley and Leslie Bricusse for the musical ‘The Roar of the Greasepaint – The Smell of the Crowd‘ in 1965. Although Simone is is often heralded as the person who made the song famous, it was actually first performed by Cy Grant who starred in the show.
However, Simone’s slightly adjusted arrangement of the ‘Feeling Good’ has gained more notoriety than the Cy Grant original and has been covered by a range of artists. Of course, the most popular recent version of the song is undoubtedly Jennifer Hudson’s rendition, which airs regularly on television as part of her Weight Watchers campaign.
Listen to Grant and Simone’s versions of ‘Feeling good below:

Interesting and amazing. She is phenomenal.
Rih rih should defiently cover this and make it another #1 hot 100 hit, she can do no wrong, where living in Rihanna’s world. Nina Symone who?
Oh I see Rihbaby has returned and is still SUPER delusional…Rih rih cannot TOUCH Nina Simone on her best day…..she doesn’t know anything about that…..
Clearly, Nina’s version is more popular than Cy’s because it is more exciting, musically and vocally. Anthony Newley and Leslie Bricusse have to be rolling in the dough at this point because everyone and their mamas have a version of this song.
I like the Pussycat Dolls’ version of the song from their PCD album. Although it doesn’t compare to Nina’s, I still love it.
Ah, I knew this. I hope Trent does a post of Singers covering Nina Simone’s songs that she covered.
Did you know she was also a substance abuser and suffered from severe mental illness? Buth Trenisha not gonna call her selfish and write a scathing post like he did on whitney! Idiot!
