Did you know that Vanilla Ice’s ‘To the Extreme’ debut album stayed at #1 on the Billboard 200 for 16 weeks?
Released on August 28th 1990, ‘To the Extreme’ catapulted Vanilla Ice to stardom after it dominated the Billboard 200 for 16 weeks. The album has thus far been certified 7x platinum in the US and remains as the rapper’s only LP to receive a certification from the RIAA.
‘To the Extreme’ generated 2 top 10 singles on the Billboard Hot 100, including Vanilla Ice’s lone #1 single, ‘Ice Ice Baby’. However, the rapper was notoriously blasted by members of the Hip-Hop community for the lyrics of the ‘Play That Funky Music’, which peaked at #4 on the chart, after boasting that he was a “white rapper with some street knowledge.”
