When Mary J. Blige’s ‘Mr. Wrong’ video debuted in December and shockingly omitted an appearance from the tune’s guest act, Drake, many people were puzzled by the occurrence. However, an alternate version of the production that included an appearance from the rapper has been released, probably in an attempt to boost the song’s performance on the charts.
Thus far, ‘Mr. Wrong’ has yet to make an impact on the Billboard Hot 100, despite peaking at #31 on the Billboard Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs Chart. Meanwhile, Blige’s ‘My Life II: The Journey Continues (Act I)’ album, on which the track is included, has only sold 400K copies in the US since being released on November 21st.
Watch the alternate video for ‘Mr. Wrong’ below:
Why does it look as though Drake simply stood at the back of a club’s VIP section for someone to film his segment with an iPhone and then add it to the intro Blige’s original ‘Mr. Wrong’ video? This entire fiasco regarding the handling of Blige’s ‘My Life II’ project really seems to be a case of mismanagement.
From releasing the weak first single, ’25/8′, to releasing the R&B ‘My Life II’ during the peak of the Dance/Pop movement, this era of Blige’s career has been defined by bad timing and shabby decisions. Yet, she has an incredible track record so perhaps she should end her ‘My Life II’ promotional campaign, take a break from the music scene and return with something fresh when the market is more open to accepting her brand or music.
