Just couple weeks shy of the anniversary of its release, Adele’s ’21′ has made history yet again. Specifically, the album, which was the UK’s top-selling album of 2011, has notched more weeks at the summit of the UK Albums Chart than any other studio album in 40 years.
’21′ has clocked 19 non-consecutive weeks at #1 of the Albums Chart to become the longest-running chart-topper since Simon & Garfunkel’s ‘Bridge Over Troubled Water’, which garnered 33 non-consecutive weeks at the peak since 1970. Additionally, ’21′ has extended its record as the longest-running #1 studio album by a solo artist as well as the LP with the 6th longest stay at the top in UK history.
Thus far, ’21′ has sold 3.81 million copies in the UK. Its US total currently stands at 5.82 million units since being released in that country on February 22nd 2011.
