Two of the most important figures of the Hip-Hop movement are finally ready to emerge from their dormancy and return to the spotlight. Timbaland has announced that he and his longtime collaborator, Missy Elliott, will release their long awaited solo albums in June!
Elliott has not released an album since her ‘The Cookbook’ album in 2005 whereas Timbaland’s last record was ‘Shock Value II’ in 2009. Both records were the lowest-selling studio albums of their respective discographies.
So why are Elliott and Timbaland issuing their new projects at the same time? Read the latter’s explanation of the idea below:
“Me and Missy are both coming with our albums at the same time, and it will be in June,” Timbo told MTV News in his Miami home February 3. “Right now, we’re preparing to get both our videos, our first singles, shot kinda at the same time. We want to do it as a movement and spontaneously.”
“I just don’t want to move too ahead of her and she don’t want to move too ahead of me,” Timbaland said. “So we’re both doing it at the same time.”

Although I would people warn against getting overly excited about this news because of the recurrent delays by Elliott in the past, it is still wonderful to see that both her and Timbaland are primed for new release. Honestly, the music industry is desperate for a new sound and they have always been innovative with their material. Let’s see if they still have what it takes to revolutionise Hip-Hop once again!
