Did you know that Jay-Z has yet to score a #1 single on the Billboard Hot 100 without the assistance of a featured act?
As a lead performer, Jay-Z has only landed one song atop the Hot 100 - ‘Empire State of Mind’ – and that track included a guest appearance by Alicia Keys. The rapper’s other three #1 songs were all achieved will he served as a featured artist – Mariah Carey’s ‘Heartbreaker’, Beyonce’s ‘Crazy in Love’ and Rihanna’s ‘Umbrella’.
Interestingly, none of Jay-Z’s singles where he was listed as a lead act in the 1990s penetrated the top 10 of the Hot 100. In fact, his only top 10 hits prior to R. Kelly’s ‘Fiesta (Remix)’ were Foxy Brown’s ‘I’ll Be’ and Carey’s ‘Heartbreaker’.
