Did you know that Carole King’s ‘Tapestry’ is ranked as the 2nd longest-running #1 album by a female artist in the history of the Billboard 200?
King’s ‘Tapestry’ sophomore album spent 15 weeks at the pole position of the Billboard 20 in 1971 and was eventually certified diamond by the RIAA. The only records by female artists that have spent longer at the top of the ranking were Whitney Houston’s ‘The Bodyguard’ soundtrack and Adele’s ’21′, which both nabbed 20 frames at #1.
Despite her own commercial achievements as a recording artist, King is probably best known for writing Aretha Franklin’s ‘(You Make Me Feel Like) A Natural Woman’. She also co-wrote Mariah Carey’s ‘If It’s Over’ and Celine Dion’s ‘The Reason’.
Watch King perform her lone #1 hit on the Billboard Hot 100, ‘It’s Too Late’, below:
Funny enough, I was listening to ‘If It’s Over’ yesterday from Mariah’s Unplugged album where she said that Carole King co-wrote the song with her and here I am on this blog today and you write about her…Cool!
Do you know that the song on that album called “So far Awat” was Amy Winehouse’s favourite song and it was played on her funereal?
Now you know!
You’re so… far away… doesn’t anyone every stay in one place anymore…it’d be so nice to see your face at my door.
I’m not a big fan of her voice but her songwriting skills are phenomenal! She has written songs to some of the most amazing singers and she’s been covered a million times that’s how you can tell how talented she is!!
I’m glad you did a MM on her, she was great in VH1 Divas. Her singing was shaky but super emotional, loved her duet with Celine.
