Did you know that the legendary entertainer and fashion icon Grace Jones is Jamaican?
Jones was born in Jamaica in 1948 and migrated to the US in 1965. Despite not achieving major commercial success compared to many of her peers, the eccentric 63-year old has been listed as a major inspiration by several younger performers, including Lady Gaga, Kelis, Rihanna and Madonna, because of her unique contributions to music and film.
One of Jones’ most popular songs was her 1981 single ‘Pull Up to the Bumper’ from her ‘Nightclubbing’ album. Coincidentally, the song was covered by another Jamaican artist, Patra, who scored a hit with the tune in 1995.
