After dominating the 2012 Grammy Awards with her historic 6 wins, many people thought that Adele’s journey with ’21′ had reached an impressive end. However, those persons might be shocked to discover that the British Soul singer had only just begun her reign. In fact, Adele’s ’21′ reached a new sales peak this week, exactly a year after being released in the US!
’21′ sold over 730K copies following the Grammys and exhibited a 207% boost in sales. This figure easily topped the 399K that the LP sold during a week in the Holiday season and launched its total to 7.35 million copies.
Additionally, ’21′ has logged its 21st week atop the Billboard 200 and shattered Whitney Houston’s record for having the long-running #1 album on the chart by a female artist in US history. The latter diva once held that title with her ‘The Bodyguard’ soundtrack in 1993. Moreover, ’21′ is now ranked as the longest-running #1 album of the SoundScan era (1991-present).
’21′ is also listed among only 9 albums to remain at the summit of the Billboard 200 for at least 21 weeks and it is currently tied in 5th place with MC Hammer’s ‘Please Hammer Don’t Hurt ‘Em’ in the rankings with 21 weeks at #1, each. Finally, during its 52-week stay on the listing to date, ’21′ has yet to leave the top 10.
