Katy Perry was unable to break Michael Jackson’s record of 5 #1 songs from a single album on the Billboard Hot 100 but thanks to her high profile performance at the 2012 Grammy Awards, she has found her way to the summit of chart in another respect. However, Perry wasn’t the only Pop star to launch into the upper regions of the lineup this week.
‘Part of Me’ – the lead single from Perry’s ‘Teenage Dream: The Complete Confection’ – has debuted at #1 on the Hot 100 as the 20th song in history to achieve that feat. The track sold over 411K downloads and earned Perry the biggest single week sales of her career. Yet, this chart-topping accomplishment does not count toward Perry’s quest to break Jackson’s record as ‘Complete Confection’ is regarded as a separate entity from the original ‘Teenage Dream’.
Further down the Hot 100 list, Nicki Minaj and Chris Brown also landed top 10 debuts. Minaj’s ‘Starships’ roared onto the chart at #9 whereas the latter’s ‘Turn Up the Music’ leaped into the #10 slot. Brown recently released the official remix to his single and it features none other than his controversial ex-girlfriend Rihanna.
Finally, Adele made history yet again by scoring 3 singles in the top 10 of the Hot 100 - ‘Set Fire to the Rain’ (#2), ‘Rolling in the Deep’ (#5) and ‘Someone like You’ (#7). She has become the only female to achieve that feat as a lead artist. By the way, Adele’s ’21′ album clocked the #1 spot on the Billboard 200. Read all the astonishing details about that here.
