US Charts: Katy Perry, Nicki Minaj & Chris Brown Score Huge Debuts

    Written by TriniTrent | Filed under Adele,Bruno Mars,Charts,Chris Brown,Katy Perry,Kelly Rowland,Nicki Minaj,Rihanna,Whitney Houston

Katy Perry was unable to break Michael Jackson’s record of 5 #1 songs from a single album on the Billboard Hot 100 but thanks to her high profile performance at the 2012 Grammy Awards, she has found her way to the summit of chart in another respect. However, Perry wasn’t the only Pop star to launch into the upper regions of the lineup this week.

‘Part of Me’ – the lead single from Perry’s ‘Teenage Dream: The Complete Confection’ – has debuted at #1 on the Hot 100 as the 20th song in history to achieve that feat. The track sold over 411K downloads and earned Perry the biggest single week sales of her career. Yet, this chart-topping accomplishment does not count toward Perry’s quest to break Jackson’s record as ‘Complete Confection’ is regarded as a separate entity from the original ‘Teenage Dream’.

Further down the Hot 100 list, Nicki Minaj and Chris Brown also landed top 10 debuts. Minaj’s ‘Starships’ roared onto the chart at #9 whereas the latter’s ‘Turn Up the Music’ leaped into the #10 slot. Brown recently released the official remix to his single and it features none other than his controversial ex-girlfriend Rihanna.

Finally, Adele made history yet again by scoring 3 singles in the top 10 of the Hot 100 - ‘Set Fire to the Rain’ (#2), ‘Rolling in the Deep’ (#5) and ‘Someone like You’ (#7). She has become the only female to achieve that feat as a lead artist. By the way, Adele’s ’21′ album clocked the #1 spot on the Billboard 200. Read all the astonishing details about that here.

Song is trash. It’s already falling on itunes so I don’t see it having a long life. Disappointed in people for buying this junk music.

    • Ides

The song is no good. I haven’t even heard it on the radio. Billboard should have better policies so artist can’t go straight to the top just by the amount they sell, airplay should play a bigger role in Billboard 100.

I’ve never been here for Katy Perry!

I just don’t like Katy Perry’s image. Some of her songs are just ok…don’t get why she’s so hot. I guess that kissed a girl thing set her up for the success. VERY very proud of Chris Brown. I believe the remix will score high marks as well.

Who has been sleeping on Adele this long that her first 2 singles are in the top 10? How the fuck is that even possible?

Katy, of course, is slaying and, yes, ya’ll mad.

So I’m supposed to believe that a song that leaked years ago sold that many copies in one week and now it’s already at number 4 on iTunes? Well, I guess her label bought their number 1 and now they’re abandoning it. They got tired of spending two months trying to force a song to the top so they just paid for it right from the start. Pathetic.
