Footage of Mariah Carey’s sensual ‘Shake it Off’ performance at the ‘Plot Your Escape’ show was released earlier today but it didn’t satisfy her fans’ appetites for serious vocals. Luckily, thanks to a crafty spectator’s camera phone, we now have video of the diva’s ‘I’ll Be There’ rendition at the event.
Joined by her longtime collaborator and backing singer Trey Lorenz, with whom she made this Jackson 5 cover a #1 hit in 1992, Carey toyed with the audience by unleashing a flurry of silky high notes. Watch the playful duo in action below:
Now this is the type of performance that we needed to see from Carey! Although a bit choppy at certain points, her voice was free and her vocal runs were on point! She never ceases to amaze me with her ability to dip to incredible lows and gracefully climb to the higher registers as though it is the simplest act.
Having Carey back on the music scene is just wonderful. I sense that her new album might be her best work yet!
