Footage of Mariah Carey’s sensual ‘Shake it Off’ performance at the ‘Plot Your Escape’ show was released earlier today but it didn’t satisfy her fans’ appetites for serious vocals. Luckily, thanks to a crafty spectator’s camera phone, we now have video of the diva’s ‘I’ll Be There’ rendition at the event.
Joined by her longtime collaborator and backing singer Trey Lorenz, with whom she made this Jackson 5 cover a #1 hit in 1992, Carey toyed with the audience by unleashing a flurry of silky high notes. Watch the playful duo in action below:
Now this is the type of performance that we needed to see from Carey! Although a bit choppy at certain points, her voice was free and her vocal runs were on point! She never ceases to amaze me with her ability to dip to incredible lows and gracefully climb to the higher registers as though it is the simplest act.
Having Carey back on the music scene is just wonderful. I sense that her new album might be her best work yet!
did she do a tribute for Whitney?
The ending was very thing. I loved it.
Great job. She scales up and down like it’s nothing.
her voice was free and vocal runs were on point? in what video? this was almost as basic of a vocal as shake it off, choppy describes it perfectly, the only bright spot was the end
Yessssssss & yessssssssssss @ that ending! Go Queen!
@TheMan4u the adlibs, the end and other notes were free. Her voice was clear and smooth. Thats where. Go there >>>>……… and sit down…………..
Love Mariah. This performance sounded pretty good, but she still sounds like a Karaoke version of herself.
That was amazing and she was so happy to be back on stage. Mariah is back. The VOICE is back.
its ok to be a stan but try to keep it real, that was amateurish at best, the basic vocalist of today could do that
It amazes me that “some people” want her to sound prefect! She’s not 25 anymore her voice has changed and aged, but at least she can still sing.
*perfect*
I’m cool with how she sounds but her stand should be as well and not make it more than what it is
Amateurish and basic? Today’s singer can do that? Lol name one. Katy? Rihanna? Gaga? Let’s see a video of you singing before you judge The Voice. She’s obviously not as good as 1992 but she restored her voice and that was a great performance. You deaf?
Are we listening to the same video? It wasn’t that good
I always thought Mariah’s runs were overrated. Her runs are not connected, they’re always choppy. They’re not ‘ran together’ like Brandy’s
So funny some of you were praising Whitney’s (RIP) last performances but find Mariah’s amateur and overrated. SMH, let’s be real.
Thank you God Happy the Queen is well
she sounded good it wasnt her best but her voice is clearly in great shape…keep in mind she was recording in the studio the night before. & vocal chords are muscles they get tired so yea she did good..Yay Mc is back bitches
