Move over Justin Timberlake, we have a new white artist on the scene who wants to capitalise on black culture. Earlier today, during an interview with Power 105.1′s ‘The Breakfast Club’, Justin Bieber revealed what several music critics already knew: he is just another Pop act who uses Urban music to sell records.
Bieber stated to the host of the ‘Breakfast Club’ that he only “pulls” from Hip-Hop so that he could get the “swag” of the culture. However, when asked if he would ever become fully Urban, the singer quickly made it clear that he only wants to go “halfway” so that he would remain accessible to his Pop fans and that only made songs like ‘Boyfriend’ to attract ”older audience members.”
Later this year, Bieber will release his ‘Believe’ album. Helping him to take from Hip-Hop culture are Pharrell, Diplo, Drake and Darkchild. Listen to him explain his views on the ‘Breakfast Club’ below:
In other words, Bieber will dress, walk, talk (“bro” and “dog”) and even sing like Urban artists just to capitalise on their market until that brand of “swag” is no longer in trend. Do you see the problem with his comments?
It’s rare that ethnicity becomes a major music industry problem in 2012 but Bieber’s statements highlight that ignorance is still reigns. He seemingly has little respect for the Hip-Hop genre so he uses it like a toy until something new becomes available.
Hey, don’t blame Bieber for his comments. Thanks to label propaganda and artists such as Usher supporting his every move instead of teaching him about appreciate the Hip-Hop artform, he is budding into quite the adorable abuser of black culture.
