Nicki Minaj and Madonna have been dominating the airwaves during the last few weeks as they promoted their latest projects. However, the supertsars and occasional collaborators experienced completely different results for their respective efforts.
Firstly, Minaj’s ‘Pink Friday: Roman Reloaded’ has exceeded expectations and launched onto the Billboard 200 at #1 by selling over 253K copies. Although that figure represents a marked decline from Minaj’s previous album, ‘Pink Friday’, which opened with 375K copies in November 2010, the LP still outsold Adele’s ’21′ this week. The latter sold another 153K copies at #2 for a new total of 8.64 million.
Secondly, Madonna’s ‘M.D.N.A.’ has set a new US sales record but not for the reason that many may have expected. With an 86.7% dip in sales, the album has earned the title of having the largest second-week percentage decline since 1991, beating the 84.27% decline of Lady Gaga’s ‘Born this Way’.
