Whitney sounds good to me. I wasn’t stellar but she doesn’t sound bad on this track.

thin and strained? Trent, it’s kind of funny how you used words to describe Whitney’s vocals that critics have been using to describe Mariah’s vocals from Charmbracelet through present day. I’m not gonna lie, I can’t wait to see how Trent is going to attempt to twist Whitney’s “His Eye Is On The Sparrow” into a bad recording since all of the extras on the “Sparkle” set that day said how Whitney blew it out of the water. Seriously, Trent, you seem so dedicated to comparing Whitney’s recent voice to her peak voice. Okay, then I am curious: What do you think of Mariah’s voice on the Charmbracelet album, or on songs like “Mine Again” compared to her debut album? it’s been a decade and I STILL don’t know how the label allowed Mariah to release “Charmbracelet.” Her voice on that album was dreadful. All she did was switch between whispering and shrill, thin shrieking…oops, I mean “singing.”

Do yourself a favor, Trent, go watch Whitney performing the song “I Look To You” in Nottingham and take note of how that LIVE vocal completely blows anything, studio or live, that Mariah has sang in years. And then come back and try to rag on Whitney’s voice, knowing that Mariah’s present voice is “barely a shadow of its former glory.”

And I read a comment saying that is IS fair to compare Whitney’s recent vocals to her vocals at her peak. Um, NO, it is NOT fair to compare a woman’s voice at 48 to her voice from 20 years years ago. Even Celine, who has preserved a lot of her voice, can’t sing as well as she could 20 years ago. And Mariah…well, like I said, critics don’t call Mariah’s current voice strained and thin for no reason.

I like the song, Whitney sounds okay. I was never expecting 1999 vocals, I’m just going to enjoy it for what is it. My only problem is that I don’t think she finished recording the song.

I’m more excited for “His Eye is On The Sparrow”, Whitney sounded better on the ET clip & she got to finish the song. Goodbye Whitney, you’ll never be forgotten. A true vocalist.

Strisand just sold out 2 Oct. concerts recently,if her audience is looking to hear Babs of the 70″s they will be sadly disappointed.They are all still among the best regardless.

I love Whitney’s voice from 1983-2012. I love to hear HER sing. I don’t care about what condition these queens like to speculate that it was in. I’m very excited for Sparkle and I think I will be in tears during His Eye On The Sparrow because that Holy Ghost don’t play!

As far as Mariah, real fans know what Mariah’s deal is. She can still sing her ASS off! We need to respect our legends while we have them. It blows my mind that we haven’t learned anything this year. Mariah on her worst day could out sing any of your faves (in her sleep!) Pre-recorded vocal tracks are used by EVERYBODY in the business and Mariah is smart not to over-exert her instrument like she did back in the day. Someone said that Jordin Sparks sang to much, I think
they delibertately made Jordin Sparks sing a lot of
the vocals to hide Whitney’s strain and thin vocals
to make the sound good.

I’m a huge supporter of both artists but the song’s hardly anything special. It’s good, but not great.
