Adele’s ’21′ has dominated the UK Albums Chart consistently since it was released on January 24th 2011. However, even the biggest-selling albums eventually slip from the chart’s summit and that finally happened this week to her record-breaking LP.
After 71 weeks in the top 10 of the UK Albums Chart, Adele’s ’21′ has dipped out of the lineup’s upper region. The LP landed at #12 in its 72nd week on the chart yet still managed to outrank Alexandra Burke’s ‘Heartbreak on Hold’, which bombed by debuting at #18.
’21′ has thus far sold over 4.34 million million copies in the UK and surpassed Michael Jackson’s ‘Thriller’ to become the fifth highest-selling album in the history of that territory. Only Queen’s ‘Greatest Hits’,The Beatles’ ‘SGT Pepper’s Lonely Heart’s Club Band’, Abba’s ‘Gold: Greatest Hits’ and Oasis’ ‘What’s the Story Morning Glory’ have sold more units.
Adele also enjoyed similar success in the US with her ’21′ album. The record has thus far logged 67 weeks in the top 10 of the Billboard 200 and sold over 9.27 million copies to date. Additionally, ’21′ projected to reclaim the #1 spot on the chart in the coming frame, thus logging its 24th week at the top.
