Jones has thus far notched seven Academy Award nominations, with his first being in 1986 for his contributions to ‘The Color Purple’ soundtrack. Thus far, he has accumulated four nominations for Best Original Song, Best Picture for ‘The Color Purple’ and two for Best Original Score.
