Forget about snippets and previews because the full version of Kelly Rowland’s new song, ‘Ice’, has been released. The song, which features Lil Wayne, is the official lead single from the former Destiny’s Child member’s upcoming studio album, due later this year.
Did Rowland try something new with ‘Ice’ or has she simply gotten lazy by repeating the typical oversexed R&B formula of ‘Motivation’? Listen to the song below to find out:
Clearly, Rowland is comfortable with simply being good enough instead of the great artist whom she could be if she tried. ‘Ice’ is literally almost identical to ‘Motivation’ and even Wayne’s verse was glaringly predictable.
Has Rowland learned nothing from the commercial disaster that was ‘Here I Am’? A niche R&B single is not enough to guarantee the success of an album. Until she explores new sounds and finds a comfortable medium between her more popular European Dance music and R&B, she will continue to struggle to make a major impact on the charts.
Really, Donna Summer just passed so how hard would it have been for Rowland to use some initiative to combine a great sample of the diva’s ‘I Feel Love’ with a contemporary production style to create something fresh? Get with the programme or find a new hobby, Rowland.
