It has been another major week of commercial achievements on the US charts, and Frank Ocean, Pink and Adele were all among the big winners. From an impressive debut of one artist to the everlasting success of another, the Billboard 200 and Billboard Hot 100 were action packed!
Starting with the Billboard 200, Ocean’s ‘channel ORANGE’, roared onto the lineup at #2 with sales exceeding 131K copies. These figures exceed the 110K-125K copies that the record was predicted to sell based on its first day sales. Additionally, the position of the LP mirrors its ranking on the UK Albums Chart where it also entered at #2.
Lower on the the Billboard 200 at #8 was Adele’s ’21′, which sold another 35K copies for a new total of 9.57 million. However, that lofty sum wasn’t the only major achievement that Adele notched this week. In fact, the 9x platinum ’21′ has logged 73 weeks in the top 10 of the Billboard 200, therefore shattering the 72-week streak of Alanis Morissette’s ‘Jagged Little Pill’ as the longest-running top 10 album by a female artist in the history of the chart.
Pink continued the trend of woman power on the Hot 100 where her new single, ‘Blow Me (One Last Kiss)’, vaulted from #58 to #9 on the lineup. The song is now the edgy singer’s 12th top 10 hit on the Hot 100, ranking her 3rd among women with the most such entries in the post-2000 era. In case you’re wondering which women have more top 10 hits than Pink in that time, Rihanna has 22 and Beyonce has 14.
