Okay, I admit that I have been ridiculously inconsistent with this Caribbean Heat series but I’d probably get beaten with a steel pan if it wasn’t revived on this incredibly important occasion. Today (August 31st) marks the 50th anniversary of Trinidad & Tobago’s Independence Day!
On August 31st 1962, Trinidad & Tobago officially became a nation free of British rule and now, 50 years later, we are excited to celebrate our continued development. So, in honor of this day, Caribbean Heat highlights several popular Soca songs that capture the essence of our people. Listen to those tunes below a enjoy this moment with us:
Benjai – ‘Trini’
David Rudder – ‘Trini to d Bone’
Kes the Band – ‘We are Conquerors’
Machel Montano – ‘Oil & Music (Ft. David Rudder)’
Maximus Dan – ‘Soca Warrior’
Nadia Batson & Kes the Band – ‘My Land’
Patrice Roberts – The Islands (Ft. Bunji Garlin)’
