@ Tracy I agree. I believe a lot gets lost in translation with Celine. When she first spoke on Whitney Houston’s death I was upset like who is this b%#&*#@ to talk about Whitney like this…. then I had to realize she loved Whitney and was grieving. Life is a funny thing. You never know where it will lead you. Whitney Houston’ career was unprecedented. Though Celine and Mariah have had magnificent careers, Whitney Houston just had something special about her…. like she was annointed by God himself so that everything she touched just turned to platinum. She took over radio, television (Cinderella was the highest rated made for television movie in history), and movies, and she took them over in a real way!!! Whitney Houston was PEERLESS…. no one who really understood her and how she was just a down to earth girl who God placed on a rocket ship to MEGASTARDOM!!! I believe it was a lot for her. Celine but your clothes on, raise your children, nurse your husband and dont fall into the “I need to sell records so let me take off my clothes.” That is one thing I always credited Whitney with was maintaining her dignity and not taking that route and she easily could have because she was the most naturally beautiful of them all.

@John Vidal…… first off I appreciate your comment and think you have confused the point that I was trying to make. When Whitney died Celine came on television (before a toxicology) and talked about how Whitney let drugs take her away from her family and drugs were more important than motherhood. These comments were harsh and come from a person who really has no understanding of the disease of addiction. Since I know that Celine’s still thick (after like 20 years in the business) accent is still prevalent I understand that she probably didnt meant to come off like that. Not everyone can marry the man that discovered them (who happens to be old enough to be her grandfather) and allow them to guide your path. How is she scared of show business when she has a daily gig in Vegas of all places? Sorry to tell you but when a middle aged woman decides to start taking her clothes off…… theres a problem especially when this has never been her gimmick. Madonna has remained true to her image since day one. When she takes something off is anyone really surprised?

I’m always torn when reading arguments for Whitney’s “class and dignity”, of course, contrasting with the provocative appearances presented by her biggest chart rivals. So let me put it bluntly: when all the dust has settled, taking clothes off is nothing as profound as you make it to be. These Celine Dion photographs will not affect her income, it won’t affect the way she raises her children, and it won’t affect her health – the biggest argument Whitney’s fellow “divas” can make against Whitney. All those Whitney-career statistics aforementioned took place in the mid-90′s or earlier. In 2012, that’s practically a different geological era. Unfortunately for Whitney, her biggest pop culture contributions weren’t exactly things you would proudly list on a spreadsheet. (Hate to bring this up) but Whitney’s personal problems is the biggest flaw in your “dignity” comment. For the last 15 years, Whitney never managed to separate her personal plagues with her career. This was only forwarded by her behavioural antics in public (The Wendy Williams interview, for example, in which Whitney cursed uncontrollably). Mariah has long since left her “Glitter-nervous breakdown” days behind her (doing as much as she can to erase that period from public memory), and Madonna and Celine managed to avoid personal scandals altogether. They have all received media criticism, but some stood high and honourable, whereas others crashed and crumbled. And while Whitney’s main peers approached middle age, and continued to ride high on success (with more accolades and less clothing), Whitney’s abysmal personal struggles not only continued to spiral out of control, but became even more widespread among public knowledge. So you may praise Whitney for all she’s worth, who am I to defer you. But to say that Whitney was the most “dignified” of them all is a pure delusion.
