Kelly Rowland and Patti LaBelle

Did you know that Nelly and Kelly Rowland’s monster hit song, ‘Dilemma’, sampled a Patti LaBelle classic?

The structure of ‘Dilemma’ was based on a sample of one of LaBelle’s 1984 hit singles, ‘Love, Need and Want You’. The latter song, which was featured on LaBelle’s first gold-certified studio album as a solo act,  ‘I’m in Love Again’, peaked at #10 on the Billboard Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart.

Several other artists have sampled ‘Love, Need and Want You’. Among those acts were Big Boi (‘Ghettomusick’) and Lloyd (‘Lay it Down’). Watch LaBelle perform the classic jam below:
